Our Club

Founded September 27, 1933

The Missouri Yacht Club was founded to encourage boating, sailing, and seamanship — and it has never stopped.

History & Heritage

Ninety-two years on Lake Lotawana

The MYC is a private club that promotes competitive and pleasure sailing for the C-Scow, MC-Scow, Club 420, and Butterfly fleets. Sanctioned fleet races take place beginning in May, and numerous social events are held for the membership throughout the year — Thursday Night Dinners, the weekend lakeside Snack Bar, and the traditional schedule of parties.

In the club's first year, members celebrated with a dinner-dance at the Hotel Bellerive in Kansas City. The clubhouse that hosts today's parties was rebuilt on July 3, 1948, and the bronze Founder's Plaque inside still honors the club's first officers — A.R. Stock, Commodore; C.R. Huston, Vice Commodore; and the trustees and committeemen who built the club.

The Wednesday-morning Butterfly fleet — the "Social Butterflies" — celebrated its 50th anniversary with a regatta and gala in August 2015. The annual Orlando Webb Regatta honors the club's 1974 Commodore.

Travel Privileges

Reciprocity

MYC members have reciprocity with hundreds of yacht clubs across the USA through the Yachting Club of America. Contact our Membership Chair in advance of your travels — there is a process of pre-communication between clubs.

Email membership@missouriyachtclub.comwith the club you would like to visit and the date you're requesting. Our Membership Director will send a letter of introduction and confirm your membership is in good standing. Always carry your MYC Membership Card — you'll need it at other YCA clubs.
