Lotawana Sailing
Lake Lotawana is home to competitive fleets of C-Scows, MCs, and Butterflies. Sanctioned fleet racing begins in May and runs through the Fall Regatta.
The Fleets
Four fleets, one lake
Weekends find the water busy with C and MC boats, while the Social Butterflies take to the lake on Wednesday mornings. Approach any MC sailor with a free beer and they will happily help get you started. Approach a C sailor cautiously, if at all, with rum.
C-Scow
The big rigs. Fast, demanding, and the heart of weekend fleet racing since the club's earliest days.
MC-Scow
The friendliest fleet on the lake — singlehanded racing with a famously welcoming crowd.
Club 420
The youth training and racing workhorse, bridging young sailors from the Opti to big-boat crews.
Butterfly
The 'Social Butterflies' take the lake on Wednesday mornings — a tradition for over 60 years.

A big part of Lotawana Sailing is introducing new sailors to the thrill and challenge of the sport. Our primary instructor for new sailors — especially ladies and children — is Kristen "Chicken" Falkenberg, an accomplished multi-fleet sailor who is passionate about getting everyone out on the water.
- MondaysLearn to Sail the Club 420
Ages 12+ · arrive 9:30am · June 1 – July 27. Bridges youth from the Opti to the 420 — a lesson, then on-water practice.
- TuesdaysLearn to Race — Club 420 & Optimist
Ages 10–18 (younger sailors by invitation) · arrive 9:30am, races at 10am · June 2 – July 28.
- ThursdaysLearn to Sail the Optimist Dinghy
Ages 4–9, older siblings welcome · 9:30–11:30am · June 4 – July 23.

In Memoriam — we tragically lost two fantastic sailors this year, and they will be sorely missed: David VanRaden (#1723) and Scott Griffiths (#2420). We look forward to seeing everyone on the race course in 2026.
